EDC Vegas ProTip #75 Do Not Expect Cell Phone Service

Another weekend gone by and another weekend closer to Electric Daisy Carnival 2013! Today’s tip is about cell phone service and the tip is that you should not expect any once you’re at the Speedway. There’s going to be 100,000 people in one small area trying to all use their cell phones at once creating congestion on the networks of all cell phone providers.

The best way to communicate with friends is through text messaging but due to congestion on networks a lot of messages could be delayed by minutes, hours or even longer. After you type your message make sure to write the time that you sent it so that when the other person receives it they’ll know if it was on time or delayed.

You could be very lucky and have perfect coverage all three nights. At Electric Daisy Carnival 2012 there was one person in our group that had AT&T and could barely use their phone on Friday or Saturday but had no issues on Sunday. Another person had Verizon and it worked on Friday, was spotty on Saturday but barely usable on Sunday.

There’s a big chance that you’ll be split up from the people you are going with so make sure to set some meetup spots for when that happens. Find an art setup. The back corner of a stage. An area near a sound booth. A water refill station. Any one of those things. If someone has to go to the bathroom but you want to stay put make sure to stay put in an area you can be found when they get back. Once the map of the setup is released in June it will be easier to setup spots for your group.

Oh and make sure you do not lose your phone! Do not set it down anywhere other than inside of your pocket or bag. It’s way too easy to be distracted and not necessarily worry about someone stealing it but you forgetting where you left it.
