EDC Vegas ProTip #66 Make Photocopies of License, Passport and Credit Cards

Today’s tip is to plan for a worst case scenario in case you lose everything. Don’t wait until June to do this either, make a trip to the closest copy machine and do it today!

Chances are you don’t have phone numbers to your bank and credit card companies stored in your phone, if you do you’re in the minority and one of the few smart ones. You’ll want to have these numbers in case your debit or credit cards disappear and you need to put a stop to them. The last thing you want to do is assume that there’s no one in the world who’ll try and go wild with whatever cash is available to them, especially in Las Vegas. For this reason it’s also a good idea to have some cash on you at all times, not live off of your debit card.

You’ll also want to make photocopies of your drivers license or passport as well in case those go missing. Without an ID it’ll be almost impossible to get into Electric Daisy Carnival and you’ll also have a hassle getting through airport security if you fly. Being prepared will go a long way!

Here’s a great article regarding losing travel documents:

Todd Sifert says he was flying out of Dallas/Fort Worth about eight years ago when he discovered that he’d left his driver’s license at a bank. “I didn’t realize I was missing it until I got to the airport,” says Sifert, who went to the security checkpoint anyway. A TSAagent told him that other, multiple forms of ID could suffice as long as at least one was issued by a government authority.

“As I showed him what I had in my wallet, he spotted my library card, which is certainly issued by a local authority,” says Sifert, a health care systems consultant. “And I also had a Costco card, with my picture. He counted the two of those as proof of identification and let me through.”

One of the other things mentioned in that article is to look into getting a second state issued ID and keep it hidden in your bag somewhere in the hotel room.

Will photocopies let you get into the festival or on the plane home if you lose your license on day one? That’s tough to say but it’ll help you out greatly in pleading your case to security. Be prepared for the worst, the last thing you want happening is to be stuck thousands of miles from home with nothing that has your picture or name on it even if it is just a photocopy!
