EDC Vegas ProTip #38 Buying and Selling Tickets Now that it’s Sold Out

Electric Daisy Carnival 2013 in Las Vegas is sold out and there’s a lot of people that do not have tickets that wanted them. This is a scenario that a lot of people are in right now, so here’s some tips to prevent yourself from getting ripped off and also some tips about not being a douchebag and trying to scalp your extra tickets.

The first tip: avoid this from happening next year! Tickets for this years event went on sale on November 7, 2012. That was six months before they eventually sold out. That is half of a year. Do you know how much longer it is until tickets for 2013 go on sale? About six months so start saving your pennies to buy a ticket the moment they go on sale. Alright, that’s enough of sounding like a parent.

If you’re without a ticket there are a number of places you can start looking from Craigslist to StubHub to eBay to /r/concerttickets on reddit. There are also a lot of EDC groups on Facebook where people continue to find out they can’t go or have extra tickets and are willing to sell them. I’d say that it’s safe to say that a majority of the people selling tickets are legitimate and honest but you’ll still want to be careful.

First step upon buying a ticket is to validate the 16 digit code on the back of the card. Visit http://flavorus.com/card and when you put in the card number it will show you events loaded on it. When I entered mine the following appeared:

EDC Vegas 3 day Ticket

That simple. If you’re going to be buying only one day off of someone once in Las Vegas this is how you can also make sure that the card is valid and you can use it. A VIP bracelet will be a little trickier since it has an RFID tag built into it and as of writing this there’s no way I could find to validate it. This process also works to make sure that other person hasn’t contacted Flavorus to invalidate the ticket in some way.

Next step: Pay up and give the seller your address to send the ticket. Use something like PayPal and a credit card number where you’ll be able to challenge the charge if the deal turns out to be a worst case scenario and someone trying to rip you off. DO NOT SEND MONEY AND SELECT AS A GIFT! That’s the one thing you need to be cautious of. If the other person insists it is sent as a gift to avoid paying additional fee’s you should offer to pay them extra for those fee’s. If they still insist be cautious, they may be trying to scam you. Sending money as a gift removes fraud protection that PayPal offers and it’ll be near impossible to try and get your money back.

If the other person has the ticket at will call you’ll need to make sure that they send you a photo copy of the credit card (first 12 digits blacked out) and also a photocopy of their ID.

Now if you have extra tickets and you’re selling them be nice and don’t scalp others! The opportunity is there to make some money but earn some good karma in life and hook someone up that wants to go if you can’t. Chances are a professional scalper isn’t reading this site.

It’s very easy to buy and sell tickets. Agree on a price, payment and shipping method. That’s it. Start saving now to buy tickets when they go on sale in November and if it turns out you can’t go you’ll be able to pass them forward.
