“The Road to Vegas” starts in New York City this weekend as Insomniac invades Citi Field in Queens on Friday and Saturday for the 2013 edition of Electric Daisy Carnival New York. The lineup is great featuring ATB, Porter Robinson, Afrojack, Carl Cox, Calvin Harris, Headhunterz, Steve Angello and a lot more covering just about every genre of music. Single day tickets are still available for Friday for $119 and can be purchased here.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ve already made plans to go to New York if you can. If you have been under a rock click here for all the information. The festival only goes 11:00 pm each night which leaves plenty of time for after parties if you want to keep the night going.
There’s events at Marquee and Pacha in NYC on both nights but the best event is called Bustin Loose on Saturday, May 18 featuring some rave scene originators that may open your ears to some new sounds. The event features Scot Project, Frankie Bones, DJ Dan, Micro, X-Dream and many more. Hopefully you’re not asking who any of those guys are but it’s ok if you are. There isn’t all that much of a “Raving 101 Guidebook” to educate you on the past. The words Caffeine and Moonshine come to mind thinking of this lineup.
Frankie Bones is considered the Godfather of the American Rave Scene. He introduced the underground rave scene to the East Coast with his Storm Raves and also gave an important speech at one of those events where he talked about peace, love, unity and respect. Frankie Bones introduced the rave scene, gave a speech that lead to the acronym PLUR being adopted by ravers around the world and ran one of the most famous records stores in the world named Sonic Groove along with Adam X and Heather Heart. Prepare for some underground techno sounds.
Micro was the creator of the Long Island rave scene and also introduced a lot of people to the words “tech trance” in the late 1990’s. It wasn’t techno, it wasn’t vocal trance but it was music that could stand the test of time.
DJ Dan is a West Coast house DJ that is known for a lot of reasons and Needle Damage – That Zipper Track is probably the one of the biggest. When the word house music is thought of the name DJ Dan comes to mind. He was ranked #5 in the DJ Mag poll in 2006.
Scot Project introduced a lot of the world to the harder sounds of trance and continues to push the sound. There isn’t a big name club or festival in the world that Scot Project hasn’t played. He is also one of the artists on the 2013 Las Vegas lineup.
Just like those four guys, X-Dream has been at it for two decades and another East Coast pioneer that has headlined raves and clubs for a long time.
