EDC Vegas ProTip #6 Check Over Your Vehicle if Driving

This tip had not been originally planned but thanks for the comment left by Luis on tip #7 it has taken over this spot. There’s a lot of us who’ll be flying in to Las Vegas and using the shuttle buses but there’s just as many who’ll be driving from all over the place and from far distances. The intense desert heat could give your car a beating if you aren’t prepared. Some simple maintenance could be the difference between a smooth trip and getting stuck on the side of the road somewhere.

These are all simple and general maintenance things that everyone who drives a vehicle should know but if you’re not sure call your dad, mom, grandpa, grandma, uncle or whoever else in your family is good with cars that can help you.

Keep these things in mind as well if you regularly travel for partying.

Two previous tips about driving:

Now for the car care:

** Fill up your gas tank. Don’t let yourself get stuck in traffic and suddenly run out of gas. Once the tank gets below a quarter tank stop and fill it up.

** Check your tires. Check the pressure and treads. It will suck if you need to get a tire replaced before leaving and spending money you may not have but it’s better to get done than have something happen due to a blow out.

** Check your spare tire and jack. Don’t take it out for extra space to store your luggage.

** Check these fluids: Oil, brake, transmission, power steering and of course coolant. Open the hood of your car and check your car out, you don’t want to have to rely on a gauge light when it’s typically too late especially if you’re driving through the middle of the desert somewhere.

** Bring some extra water and snacks. Just in case you get stuck somewhere in the middle of the day you want to be prepared. There’ll likely be enough people travelling as well but it’s better to be on the safe side.

** Check your headlights, brake lights, taillights and turn signals. A headlight or taillight out will send up a red flag to any cops and let’s be honest, depending on your activities the less attention you draw to yourself the better.

** Watch the temperature gauge. If the car starts getting hot turn off the air conditioning and turn the heat on with the vents pointed away from you to help get some heat off of the engine.

These are just some general tips for taking care of your car and should be done often. If you’re driving and you’re not sure ask someone to help you.

The level of excitement will be strong but be smart as you’re driving to Las Vegas. The police know there’ll be over 100,000 partiers heading into the city so they’ll be on the look out. There’s no need to be paranoid but if you’re doing things you shouldn’t be you may want to hold off on painting EDC all over the windows.

There’s an old saying that’s great advice to follow, only break one law at a time! Speeding, a broken turn signal or headlight out is considered breaking the law. Think about it and be safe and smart.
