Autograf at Summer Set Music Festival

Recap: Summer Set Music Festival 2014 Day 2

Leaving early from our hotel in anticipation of the security check and potential wait time, we arrived at the venue around 4pm. Security and parking ended up being a breeze and we were inside the venue before we knew it. After grabbing a bite to eat and relaxing under some shade for a little while, we ventured over to the Big Top Stage to catch Autograf, who was playing a set that was perfect for the temperature and atmosphere of this festival. We stuck around that stage to catch the first half of Sound Remedy before meeting up with some friends on the hill looking at the Main Stage for Schoolboy Q. Personally I’m not a huge fan of hip-hop as much as I used to be, but I was impressed by how much fun the set was and how people were literally pouring into the stage.

Heading to the Grove Stage for Flux Pavilion, we noticed the large gathering of people who had gathered for The Chainsmokers, but we were dead set on being at Flux Pavilion on time. Without a doubt, after arriving in from Slovakia 2 hours before his set mind you, Flux threw down one of the most crowded and best sets I’ve ever seen. He cut it slightly shorter than billed, but it was a blessing in disguise as it let Kevin and I check out the last half of Claude Von Stroke.

The last official set of the night was Big Gigantic, who played their hearts out and wooed our eardrums with some big bass and sweet saxophone, I’d say they are a definite must see whenever they are on any festival’s lineup. Do not sleep on these guys; the energy at that stage was absolutely amazing.

I rounded out the night at the Savoy after party, which was surprisingly good. Unfortunately the night ended on a sour note with security, staff, and local police having some miscommunications which led to a two-hour adventure to get to our car and then hotel. I’m hoping to catch Myon and Shane 54 and Green Velvet tomorrow and ending this festival with one of the all-time greats, Bassnectar.
