Niko Zografos has been busy the past 12 months. Following his past two singles on Future Sounds of Egypt, the San Francisco DJ proves that third time’s the charm with his latest single “Mykonos”.

For those of you who don’t already know, Mykonos is the name of a Greekisland that has a rich culture for art and music. Spain has Ibiza and Greece has Mykonos. Another fun fact that you might not know about the up-and-coming San Francisco DJ is that he is of Greek descent. If there was a track that symbolizes a blending of culture for Zografos, this would be it.

Like something you would see on an exotic video highlighting the bass thumping nightlife that thrives off the island of Mykonos, the track welcomes you in with an energetic kick drum and immediately gets to the point by teasing the main melody. After the combined percussion and looping synths provides a foundation that grooves with the music like dancing on a sandy beach, a white noise washes over the melody for the euphoric cries of a siren. As the vocals continues to hymn its spell around the breakdown, the main chords of the melody fully appears and loops around the different elements of instruments and howls that is envisioned in Zografos’ “Mykonos” and brings it home with an epic bang.

It’s puzzling how Zografos manages to run his own promoting company, Phoria Events, that puts on about two shows a month and still finds time to enrich his fans with the occasional live streaming set and a monthly mix, Phoria Radio. Label heads Aly & Fila introduced the world to Zografos’ Greek infused San Francisco tune “Mykonos” on their recent BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. The track has been catching fire since, reaching the #11 spot on Beatport’s Trance Chart. M.I.K.E. Push tweeted that this is “San Frans finest trance”. Despite his limited time, Zografos still managed to create a track that has the aesthetic value of trance. If third time’s the charm then this Bay Area DJ has nothing but success in his future. Looking forward to his next release.
