EDC Vegas ProTip #29 Driving to the Festival

The shuttle buses are the recommend method of transportation from the Las Vegas strip to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for Electric Daisy Carnival, but there’s still plenty of people staying elsewhere or just want to drive themselves so here’s some tips if that’s you! The parking is free at the Speedway so you won’t have to pay anything additional to park.

Just like taking a shuttle bus you’ll want to leave early. The shuttles are supposed to have their own lane this year but that’s not going to help ease congestion for all of the other roads. The earlier you leave the less likely you are to get stuck in traffic.

You’ll want to have a discussion with everyone in the car about where to meet at 5:30AM when the festival ends so that no one goes unaccounted for. They do not immediately kick everyone out of the festival grounds like a club would at closing time so there’s plenty of time to have a meeting spot somewhere in the stands or even on the grass near the Cosmic Meadow stage.

Make sure that you have enough gas in your car for traffic to the festival and even on the way back. After a long night of partying the last thing you want to do is run out of gas.

Have a sober driver! That’s a no brainer.

Use the bathroom before you go. Chances are you’ll be pre gaming and once on the road it can be as quick as a half hour to the Speedway or take as long as two hours. That’s a long time to hold it in! Bring a large empty bottle in the car just in case. Good luck if you’re female.

Bring water with you in the the car for the wait in line and also for the drive back. You’ll be happy to have it when you get back to your car in the morning. Even if the sober ones will be dehydrated.

Snacks are a great idea as well for the morning, especially the driver. Everyone will be drained of energy from dancing and walking around all night and some food will give you a morning boost. Put some jerky, nuts, fruit strips, granola bars or whatever else you think will survive a night in a car for the morning.

If you’re a passenger in the car bring a pillow. Chances are you’ll be ready to pass out and a pillow will be perfect to put up against the window or another passenger to pass out on. Also, if you’re a passenger don’t be a sketchy grumpy pain in the ass to the person driving you!

For the driver, bring a spare set of keys to give to someone else in your group in case something happens and you lose them. Another great idea is to get dog tags with your name and phone number, as written about in ProTip #31.
