Daft Punk and DJ Hype Flyer from Hyperactive 1999 in Toronto

The Syrous six-year anniversary party in Toronto was a massive event held on Saturday, September 4, 1999 at the Toronto Congress Centre near the Toronto airport. The venue was absolutely massive with 200,000 square feet of space as you’ll be able to see in video footage at the bottom. In the modern era of many events being 18 and over in many parts of the world this one was all ages. It was open to everyone. The event also had shuttle service that ran from Nathan Phillips Square in downtown Toronto, a standard service for raves held outside of the downtown core. From what I recall the reports were that there was at least 8,000 people there if not more.

The main room featured the True Playaz North American tour with DJ Hype, Pascal, MC GQ and MC Fats. The lineup also featured Toronto locals Mystical Influence, Sniper, Marcus, Unknown Souljah, Slip & Slide, Tommy Illfinga’s, Lush, MC L Natural and Caddy Cad.

The second room featured a DJ set from two guys known as Daft Punk (Thomas Bangalter, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo). The supporting DJs in the house room and techno room were DJ Sneak, Josh Wink, Anne Savage, Terry Mullan, Peter & Tyrone, Tim Patrick, Kenny Glasgow, Jelo, Paul Walker, Sean Miller, Stretch & Hooker

A third room of breaks music featured Big League Chu, Marty McFly, D-Monic and Robb G.

Here’s some video footage that’ll give you an idea how massive the venue was. The footage is all from the dnb/jungle room and was the larger of the two rooms. That’s how big dnb and junle music were at the time!
