The Sahara Tent at Coachella 2014 delivered a variety of music over the weekend ranging from Carnage, Krewella, Glitch Mob, Alesso, Dillon Francis, TJR and then there was Duck Sauce closing out weekend one. Duck Sauce is a partnership between A-Trak and Armand Van Helden, two old school DJs that have been involved through the explosion of the rave scene in the late 1990’s and into the current EDM explosion of the past few years.
A-Trak won the DMC World DJ Championship in 1997 at the age of 15, making him the youngest and first Canadian winner of the competition. He also was also the first DJ to win five World Championships. Armand Van Helden released the popular track “The Funk Phenomena” in 1996 that was played on every dance music station and in every club at the time. In 1999 he released “U Don’t Know Me” and it reached #2 on the US Billboard Dance Music Charts. If you aren’t familiar with either of these guys take some time and look them up.
Their Coachella set was full of dancers on stage, chants for shoulder rides in the crowd, dancers in duck costumes and of course the second to last track was one of their most popular, “Barbra Streisand.”
